On the topic of downlights, I see that the spring fixing arms are now becoming stronger than ever, making removal of fitting from ceilings impossible without damage! I have devised a way of eliminating this problem and wondered would any of you pay £1 more per fitting to reap this benefit?

ALSO, thought I would recommend a retro fit GU10 LED lamp. Just installed loads of the new Megaman 6W 410 lumen 2800k (warm white) £10 ea (+ vat). These lamps are excellent, when looking at the lit lamp - I was unable to visually tell the difference compared to 50W halogen.

Ive seen some in the past that have a coiled spring tape instead of the usual spring arms. It was on a more expensive range of fittings but it was very effective. I think the were purchased from Mr Resistor.

jcc have the normal clips so can be removed

Light corporation in berko do the coiled spring on their down lights recently fitted 120 every on in to lath & plaster ceiling the fittings and the coils were crap designer crap - so often the case expensive fittings naff quality,

The spring /coil was not even close to being strong enough to pull the fitting to the ceiling let alone support it's weight, the poor fit renders the fire protection useless.

Never again!

I first came across one that had already been fitted - I assumed it was the standard design and tried yanking it down.....

The ones I fitted were great, the spring was really strong. They were going into a lathe and plaster ceiling that had been overboard, so they were good given the thickness of the ceiling.

Hi , I have used Aurora fittings for as long as I can remember.

Never had any problems with taking them out of the ceiling again once fitted.

I have just replaced six fittings in my kitchen and installed Philips 6w masterleds and I can honestly say that they are brighter and spread the light better than the 12v 50w lamps that I binned.
