I'd appreciate feedback from those able to do so, of how far back (as near as you can measure) from the front face the top of the fixed lug is, in a BS 4662 double 35 mm KO box
Thanks to a kind responder, I do have the figures from the BS but would like to know what is typical and what brand please. To start it off: Brand Depth Newlec 4.7 mm ? ? ? ? All will be revealed later Thanks BOD |

i'll have a look tomorrow but i do remember having an issue with some slimmer style sockets with back boxes supplied by Denmans 2 or 3 years ago. Basically the back of the sockets were fouling the box lugs stopping them going back flat against the wall.

Spot on Gary..... So much for fitting the KO boxes flush so that the plasterer doesn't fill them or leave them looking like the edges of a pasty which, when knocked off, crack the skim. But, back to the OP, are the majority of KO boxes made to the BS nominal or are some set back to the max permitted?
Is the accessory manufacturer relying on the installer breaching BS 7671 in some installations by setting the box way behind the front plane? If so, does the accessory comply with its own BS? Regards BOD |

Bod, what is the BS nominal?
And how are you guys measuring to a .01mm? my tape measure doesn't do that. I reckon you're making it up Appleby...about 5 BOD. Zs |

Yes and they put it in writing as well.
"Flush back boxes must be at least 5mm below the surface of the wall" I'll see if I can find it online and post a link. Andy |

Making it up indeed! No us professionals use precision instruments, in this case a digital vernier. Cos me numbers have rubbed off me ruler at the small numbers end. ------------------------- John Peckham http://www.astutetechnicalservices.co.uk/ Edited: 19 November 2012 at 09:14 PM by John Peckham |

Volex catalogue bottom of page 41 flat plate fittings
http://storage.electrika.com/f...index.html#/41/zoomed It is also important to take out any north/ south (top/bottom) lugs as they may short out onto terminals resulting in a big flash and a bang. Andy |

Zs ZS, Surely you have a depth micrometer or at least a vernier caliper with a depth rod on it? or you could compare it using a 0 to 1" (0 to 25mm) micrometer caliper gauge that you use to measure csa of cables with. ------------------------- Regards, Ebee (M I S P N) Knotted cables cause Lumpy Lektrik |
