In the process of quoting for a rewire of a large 5 bed occupied house.
If I get the work I'd like to get a friend who's been made redundant to help me for the full duration of the job; humping furniture, lifting floors, routing cables etc.. He's not an electrician but is very practical .

What do you think would be fair amount to pay per hour/per day?

You need to forget what you earn as a tradesman and think like someone who is looking for a job - £8 per hour is probably the most I would pay.

Depends on how much you have got in for the job and how much your mate will work for.

If he doesn't know the tradr it could be more of a hinderence than help.

Having to stop and show him what to do etc.

I pay students £50 - £60 a day for "labouring under instruction" ie doing the donkey work, my more able but electrically unqualified side kick gets £120 if that helps.

I pay my mate who used to work as a pipe fitter, so is good with tools, measuring etc £10 an hour

Looks like £10 - £12 per hour will be about right.

Is this cash in hand or taxable?
Will there be any overtime allowance or flat rate all times all days?
Is your friend getting other "benefits"
How will he get to site and back (will this cost him?)
What have you costed in for the helper or what can the job afford.

Take all above into consideration and agree a figure with your "mate" that suits you both, nothing worse than loosing a hand half way through or working with an unhappy chap.

£80 quid a day may be in the ball park!!
