My dad is thinking about getting a PV array installed. House has a large, unobstructed south-facing roof, so could be a good location.

How much should he be looking to spend per kW of generated capacity? I've had a quick look and I'm getting about £2k/kWp with a payback of just over 9 years for a 5kWp install.

That'sof the right order if you keep to under 4 kWp for single phase domestic. Once you get over 16A per phase things are a little different.
Is your Dad any where near GL7?!!

We installed a 4kW system when cost was £10k. Very happy with what we've generated, we're on course for being paid £1600 this year, and that is a SE facing roof. Now FIT is half what it was then, but so is installation costs so go for it.
