from a jurassic electrician (lapsed) with a JIB approved electrician ticket with C&G / YHCFE certs

living in land of smiles with a Dist Board having MCB's fitted, all over sized, want to change to correct size & type for circuit - safe ma trip value that will not be a nuisance, considering many varients for earth protection here e.g. no earth rod no earth - earth rod with earth connected - earth rod cross connected to earth & neutral - et al; am lucky as sockets / cooker / washer / water heater are ALL earthed (lose phrase), but light fittings are not; can't win em all ...

I contacted MEM USA/UK (both are silent) & BGK today who advised that they do not manufacture RCD's or RCDO's

Can a modern day electrician (pref with land of smiles experience) please advise me which manufacturer can supply MCB's - RCD's and type that will give max protection

Thanks

For those who don't know, the Land of Smiles is Thailand, and it's bloody wet right now

You got a photo of the board Ed? Most of the local suppliers do the plug in Square-D type or the normal DIN mount MCBs. It may well be easier to replace your CU with a locally sourced one where you can actually get breakers that fit.

You should be able to get RCDs and RCBO's (both single and 2 pole) from your local electrical emporium, have a look on the Haco Thailand website for photos and Thai language details. http://www.hacothailand.com/

Edit, the Haco site only works properly with Internet Explorer.

What a great idea
'course you could always "frame" the schedule of test results! That'd stop 'em being lost in the kitchen drawer

I've not seen that type of board in any of our local electrical emporia, that said yours must have come from somewhere, maybe pop a spare breaker out and head to the village sparks shop.

Assuming you fail, a couple of choices:-
1. Replace the board and build yourself a split-service CU from available parts, ours is a pair of 16 way ABB proM boxes in order to get in all our breakers and surge protection, readily available parts but a bit of DIY needed.
2. Use your existing board and add whole-house RCD protection. The local brand Safe-T-Cut do purpose designed RCBO units, http://www.safe-t-cut.com/eng/...hp?name=product

You may also like to have a look at this PEA document http://www.pea.co.th/pdf/groundwire.pdf yes I know it's in Thai but it shows how they will expect your earth rod to be connected (incoming neutral via the ground bar NEC style).
