Evening Guy's and Galls,

I have an up and coming Full Scope assesstment, everything else is in place, with the exception of a VDE Torque srewdriver as I normally use a torque setting on my cordless drill driver set at 2nm, but I have a funny feelling that I may have to spend another £100 on tools.

Any one else been asked for this on a annual or assesstment

Regards

Daren

Nope, not yet.

It's been mentioned on tech talks and the like but I haven't yet been asked to produce ours for inspection (or the cal cert for it)

Had mine in February.
Was told that it may be a requirement in the next 2 years.

I doubt it personally. Torque figures are given with new CU's etc, but it gives no guidance if you are using old or new tails - old ones will be work hardened, and squashed, new ones will squash down a little when tightened, so will not be tightened to the same torque as re-used old tails (well, OK, for the time you are tightening, they will be, but then the copper will distort and squash a little, so the torque will be less after a few hours.)

What happens with CB's with single core cable when you bend over the end of the cable at the termination, thus having double thickness at the termination?

Until the instructions are far clearer, I cannot see it being a requirement.

Just been out to the van to check if I had any RCBO'S for a quick job at home, and thought I would check the Hagar installation sheet .................. No torque setting only screwdriver type.

Guess not all manufacturers are singing from the same hymn sheet with regards to the torque settings etc.

This one regularly rears its head at our eca branch meetings. Our chairman has a son in the insurance industry, with evidence of claims being overturned due to electricians not being able to show how they comply with torque requirements. I can't speak for Mr. Nice, but certainly eca recommends them, although I'm yet to be checked on Elecsa surveillance visits. I'll let you know after the next one in a month or so!
