New app for all you sparks. Instantly calculates and displays maximum cable capacity and volt drop per meter, quicker than thumbing through the regs!

SWA up to 400m, MIC , Tri Rated, T&E etc

Check it out here

Perhaps not the best response you want, but the screen shot appears to show the wrong refernce method for the cable data

a 1 x1 x 4C 400mm2 (Cu) cable with a CCC of 540A is a PVC insulated cable (or approx an XLPE run to 70C) - that would be ref method C (not D or E as the image).

Or have I missed something ?

Hi OHMS, yes you have missed something...

The screen shot shows the reference methods as "Clipped Direct" Ref C...look at the digital display bottom left and therefore correct value. Those are buttons you are looking at that give you the required readings for reference methods for D and E

I don't mind spending £2.99 on you jsa, I have your app.

It looks handy and I have no doubt that I shall use it on site. I thought it would do the sums for me if I tapped in the length of the cable so I'm a bit disappointed to find that bit missing but as an alternative to going home and checking in the regs book or carrying papers it's great.

I will scrutinise it of course, and see if you have adjusted temperatures or anything......I'm seeing 20A where I would expect 17A but I've had a glass of wine and a guitar lesson so ignore that I'll get back to you on here some other time.

The reference methods look good though, 101 etc are in....

Well done that man. I will genuinely use this app and will stop guessing when I am caught on the hop and am telling a builder what I need.

What about an android version, for us uneducated types without the luxury of a IPhone.

OK - my bad, I did pick up the text in the "screen" - looking at the buttons though prompted the comment -

LoL - maybe, but then even the wunderkind supply chaps aren't as perfect as they think based on a DNO planning a 44kV wind turbine connection from this thread:

Finally got the full story on this - turns out some of the paper-work that had been sent out by the DNO had a couple of typos in it ;-)

You'd think that someone actually read it first - and if so, "44kV" would be leaping off the page at them - but, such is life.

Ohhh, I manage just about - I've even been known to use a computer for a bit of design on rare occasions. It's just that I've also seen the results of blind reliance on a bit of software without first engaging brain and working out a RoM answer first. Computer says "Yes" !!

It's going to a bit "interesting" when some guy on site decides to challenge a cable size just because he's got a handy app in his pocket that 's for sure. -

Good luck with it

Regards

@ Zs: Thanks for trying Cable Rating and your kind words, hope it saves you some time on the job. Theres a reason i cant make it calculate the results in addition to giving max readings that will come apparent in the next few weeks, its all I can say at the moment but will let you all know what im eluding to soon.

@Dbullard; No plans for Android sorry, its a horrible platform to develop for as there no quality control and easy to copy and distribute the apps to your mates etc, and its easy way to scam google play so you dont pay for the app.
