Happy Sunday everyone
Been a long hard week, working on a 4 bed rewire this week and just finished fitting some track lights in a shop today, but it's yesterday's job I want to tell you about. Fuse board change - kmf isolator switch feeding the old fuse board about 4m from the meter but in the same room. I fitted the new fuse board connected the tails and tested them, then energised the board. Confirmed polarity of the supply Took a ze reading and pfc - all good. As I connected the board (I had tested the circuits last weekend to ensure there would be no issues with the rcd etc and to confirm the installation was ok) I energise the circuits one by one and test them. First 2 circuits I energised and the rcd tripped immediately. Couldnt understand why? After checking the supply again - no neutral! The contacts Were all Black and I could see signs of arcing. Checked the kmf, neutral ok from the Meter but nothing coming out of the other side. Took the switch apart, cleaned up the contacts and put it back together and now it's fine. Switch hadn't been operated in over 10 years and when I had operated it the mech had become loosened inside'. Cost me about half an hour sorting out. But just proves you should expect the unexpected! |

Iv'e turned them off only to find they wouldn't come back on again and ended up replacing them. The customers look at you very old fashioned when you add replacing them onto the final bill!
