Hi all,

I have been asked to connect up a single phase bore hole pump that supplies a single tap. The customer would like a pressure switch fitted so that the pump will only run when the tap is turned on - so that the pump is not running continuously.

Can anyone recommend a suitable pressure switch, and is the pressure switch sufficient or do I need control gear to protect the pump from overload etc?

Thanks.

You need to be looking at a pressure vessel, pressure switch, check valves and some sort of starter also the pump would be suitable for the application.

For a single outlet would it not be easier to have an open pipe and simply use a manual switch to operate the pump when water is required?

Hi circle 143

Did one of these last year - bore hole company supplied the kit which had a lovely foreign flow switch which switched on when tap opened & off when closed - some sort of pressure differential detector. Have just had a call to nip and look at an existing farm installation which i think has same system - am going tomorrow and will try to get info for you if you can wait till tomorow evening

regards steve

Hi circle 143,

Based on my horticultural experience, a correctly sized pressure vessel, pressure switch, and pressure relief valve is a really useful way of ensuring that the max number of on/off cycles won't be exceeded for the bore hole pump.

Reduced pump switching maximizes its working life - as well as reducing the number of times the darn thing has to hauled out of the ground!

(Thermal, manual reset overload trip switches are usually used.)

Regards
E.

Good evening,

Thank you all for your responses, it is much appreciated. The job is on hold for now - but I am definitely going for the most simple option.

Thanks.
