9/10/11/12/13 July 2012

Why don't you rock down to Electric Avenue (Birmingham B6 7BU) And then we'll take you higher.

Well it gets more and more baffling. What on earth are C&G up to?

We had 2391 - a basic inspect and test, which was really a hybrid of initial and PIR

We now have

2392 - Initial inspection and testing (level 2)
2393 - Electricians guide to the Building regs (level 3)
2394 - a new Initial inspection and testing (level 3)
2395 - a new PIR/EICR inspection and testing (level 3)
2396 - Design and inspection and test (level 4)
2397 - a new qualification for QS' to sign off domestic Installations, planned for the end of the year (level X?)

We'll soon run out of 239X numbers.....unless, of course, somebody thinks of reinventing the 2391 at level 4 to include both Initial and PIRs.

When I did my 2391 a fellow course member complained that the course wasnt teaching him how to inspect and test.

A fair comment in that 4 of the 5 days were spent going through past papers - very little actual teaching but at least a quick peek at the boards set up was useful.

He was told by the lecturer that he was obviously on the wrong course - the 2392 taught you how to test and inspect - the 2391 was a course purely designed to teach you how to pass the 2391 exam.

2392 is (allegedly) finishing in Dec 2012. 2394 is basically a new version of 2391(GOLA, written paper and practical assessment) but initial verification only. 2395 is periodic (installation condition report) with fault-finding thrown in.

I've just done the written part of the 2395, no surprises, very similar to the 2391- just a bit shorter and possibly more emphasis on inspection.

Presumably if I hold a 2400 to the 16th Edition & have done the 17th Edition Regs course I don't need the 239's?
