Anybody else notice that the wattage has gone up from 7.9w to 10w

Presumably to meet part-L requirement of 400 lumens per fitting (such an odd way of conserving energy).

I think it's only on the dimmable fittings

So they have. Good spot Mike!
Has anybody tried the new Robus or the new JCC yet? ------------------------- Regard Richard (Dick) www.rllewellyn.co.uk |

My name is Adam, and i am the marketing manager at Halers, to answer your question. The total wattage on the Halers H2 has always been 7.9w, however this is the non dimmable version.
The dimmable version is 10w as this requires more power to run. The wattage of the LED is still the same but it is the dimmable driver that makes the difference. This of course effects the lumens per wat. We are always looking to make improvements on our products not only with the LED's but also with the driver and some improvemenst have been made. Please keep an eye on the website as the specification sheets will be updated shortly to reflect this. The Halers H2 is still one of the brighest LED replacements to Halogen on the market today and the Lumens is the best way to measure this. I hope i have helped in answering your questions, if you have any more please do not hesitate to reply. Adam. Edited: 26 April 2012 at 09:01 AM by Adamathalers |

Hi Adam
What dimmers do you recommend with this product? Jon |

Adam
Whilst you are answering questions - are your warm white H2's really 3000K? - I ask because the TLC LEDlite H2 lookalikes in warm white are also rated at 3000K but they are much yellower - I reckon nearer 2700K - so do TLC or Halers need a new calibrated colour temperature meter? |

Good question, we have tested so many dimmers and the problem we find is they work one day and the next they don't. We are finding an inconsistent use of components by the dimmer suppliers we find it hard to recommend a dimmer that will work every time.
One product we are happy with is the zano grid 500. But I would always recommend having more than one dimmer to hand when installing. Shortly Halers will be bringing out a dimmer so this should be easier in the future. Adam. |

We only buy from one led bin when we purchase ww and it is 3000k. I have been trying to get the tlc version to test but have had no luck so can not comment on their fitting.
Also our Nw is 4000k for future ref. Adam. |

That's not good to hear. Your product need to work with over the counter dimmers. Dimmers to suit hamilton and heritage range of product. Jon |

It will work with over the counter dimmers but this issue is the dimmer may not work the same the next time, this is not the fault of the led driver but the dimmer not being consistent in its make up.
The issue is off the shelf dimmers need to come up to the level of technology being used in LEDs. This is not an issue isolated to Halers, all led dim able down lighters have the same issues. That is why we are looking to bring out a dimmer we feel happy putting our name to. We have had good success with most dimmers but where we have had comparability issues, and flickering has occurred a change in dimmer has been required to resolve the problem. Adam. |

What the lumens per watt of this fitting?
|
|
|
|
|

This depends on whether you by dimming or non dimming?
Currently on the non dimming product The lumens per watt is 57 at 4000k (Nw) and 41 at 3000k (ww). In dimming it is 53 at 4000k and 39 at 3000k. This does differ from the website which we be updated by Monday next week. Thanks Adam. |

Hi Adam
I heard that trailing edge dimmers function better and are prefered over leading edge. Is this so? Jon |

Jon
The current driver is happy with both edges.. The advise that I would give you is to stick to the following: 5x units on a 250w dimmer 10x units on a 400w dimmer 15x units on a 1000w dimmers Adam. |

My name is Adam, and i am the marketing manager at Halers, and are these two companies linked ? Legh ------------------------- Why do we need Vernier Calipers when we have container ships? http://www.leghrichardson.co.uk "Science has overcome time and space. Yes they are linked, I believe Halers is part of the Collingwood group, they have the same address

Just wanted to make a comment about the dimming issues:
Halers have changed their drivers about 4 times since launch and matching the H2 and other LED downlights with a dimmer switch is a nightmare, although the Halers is one of the better ones. The lighting manufactures change the drivers and the dimmer switch manufacturers change the dimmers. You can get totally different results using two Varilight Pro 250W dimmer switches with identical part numbers but the batch codes on the side might be different. Its a guessing game but the Zano GRID500 dimmer is one of the best. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chris Horridge www.DownlightsDirect.co.uk |
