Evening all
can anyone confirm if the wago terminal connectors are classed "maintenance free". I have had a look at the data sheets and can't see anything regarding BS5733 or the MF sysmbol which defines if it is MF. I but have spoken to a No of electricians and they all say they are MF connectors due to the design and the characteristics of the connectors. I also, due to the way in which the connector is designed and it's clamping arrangement, would see it reasonable to assume they are maintenance free. can anyone confirm either way. regards martin |

I'd say they're maintenance free too, as I said on the other post i've never seen it written anywhere that it's a requirement to have the M F marking,

Well I would not suprised if Hager had a hand in with 526.3 (vi) and have stolen a march on it competitors.
Strictly speaking unless it has (MF) on it and conforms to BS5733 then it won't comply with 526.3 (vi) Wago don't even make the enclosure and don't appear to make any maintenance free claim. So it would down to your own engineering judegement EDIT: I see Wagobox are making a MF claim on their website "100% safe, secure and maintenance free" Edited: 28 November 2011 at 11:35 PM by sparkiemike |

Dave, it is written in the BGB.
As I understand it, the Ashley Hager items, are at present the only ones that comply with the requirements to be considered maintenance free. The Wago connectors would meet the requirements, only if they are housed in an enclosure, that has the MF symbol. |

Thanks Spin, i'll have to start reading through the BGB, up until now i've only used it to look-up specific items but I need to start studying it. I have ordered the green OSG today, that might be an easier way to get to know some of the changes,
Dave. |

Surely it's the connection rather than the box which deems maintenance free? In this respect, since wago make the connectors in the Ashley/hage j803 and j804, one could come to the assumption the wago is maintenance free?
When will the m/f begin to appear on thru crimps?! ------------------------- Regard Richard (Dick) www.rllewellyn.co.uk |

Not required, as it can't be mistaken for a non maintenance free joint.

"Not required, as it can't be mistaken for a non maintenance free joint."
Does that include my stock of "scotchlock" tow bar connectors then? Regards BOD |

Not thru crimps Spin, maintenance free terminals. The point being will thru crimps not be recognised as maintenance free without the m/f as that is one of the pre-requisites listed in the book.

Are we going to start stamping soldered, welded or brazed connections as MF as well then.
526.3 (vi) doesn't apply to (i) through (v) regards OMS ------------------------- Failure is always an option |

The solder I use has it embedded throughout like a stick of rock!

Bit confused Dick, I was under the impresion that we were discussing the requirements of BS7671????
What is the title of the book you are refering to, that requires crimps to have MF marked on them? What relevance does this book have with meeting the requirements of BS7671? |

I think if anyone is confused its probably me as ever. My comment was regarding bs7671 introducing the mf mark for maintenance free joints. If there is an exception for thru crimps I've not read it, will revise, and report back. My initial comment wasn't a suggestion that thru crimps can't be used, but a sarcastic observation that they are a maintenance free joint without an mf mark.
Let's not get caught up on syntax, I'm sure most people understood what I meant, even if others didn't, or indeed if my comment was lacking some background information. ------------------------- Regard Richard (Dick) www.rllewellyn.co.uk |

It's only the enclosure used with connectors that comply with the BS5733 requirements for a maintenance free joint that is required to have the MF mark.
All other permanent joints, such as resin filled underground torpedo joints, welded or soldered joints and those made using an appropriate compression tool do not require the MF mark. |

What's the point of the enclosure having a MF mark on it?
|
|

|
|
|
|
|
|
it's what is inside the box that matters! What if the Wagobox is marked (MF) and a different make of connector is fitted inside?
