I hope I am not breaking any of the rules of this forum but it is the one place where I think I will get a sensible reply.
I am looking for a small electrician business to give me a price to install an electric shower in an old flat in Glasgow south of the Clyde. Most of the companies that I have found on the internet are large ones and don't seem particlarly interested or are quoting a large variation of prices.
Unfortunately I don.t live in Glasgow so I don't know where to find the information though I know that here in fife there are many excellent small business.
If anyone has any suggestions could they please send me a private message.

I'm really surprised that you say companies are not interested. Right now we take all the work we can get, If I was up that end of the world I would do it no question.

Is this a new circuit? Does your consumer unit have RCD's? or is this a like for like replacement of the shower only?

Say for example to give an idea on price.
8.5kw shower about £90
40A RCBO for a consumer unit that already has MCB's £35 (If not this you can have a mini enclosure with an RCD and MCB £50)
Check Bonding (clamps and cable) to fit £20
T+E for shower £40-£50
Copper pipe and fittings £30

So say £230 on materials, depending on the layout of the house I would guess a day to a day and a half labour at £150 a day. so in total I would price around £430 in total including materials to do the electrical works and plumbing.

If you need an extractor fan that will be extra, plus if you want tiling anything else will also be extra.

Hope this gives you a indication to the price.

The fact that you have had quotes, is not an indication that companies are not interested. As for the large variation in prices, was it a case of apples and pears? i.e. Was there a specification given for the kW rating etc.? Did all the companies include for plumbing? Is there lathe and plaster involved?
More importantly, where is the old flat location in Glasgow? With experience, there are areas in that city that I wouldn't venture into - "No Mean City" tells it all in the days of A.E. Pickard, although nowadays you will manage to get back out with your ears intact.
