The sandy soil where I live (literally right behind the sand dunes onto the beach) means that in many places it's easy to sink a 4 ft. rod by just putting a small block of wood on top and using hand pressure - Not even any sort of mallet needed. Of course, the resistance isn't exactly at the low end of the scale......

A TT earthing conductor could be as small as 2.5mm2 (provided mechanical protection/burial conditions are OK), so 6mm2 bonds may well satisfy all requirements. - Andy. |

I always use 10mm for the earth rod cable, I know it's not necessary but less likely to get damaged I reckon.
