Just had a call from a customer who has just exchanged on a new house.
Apparently there was some kind of failure at the local TX (other side of the road), the fire dept had to attend and most of the houses were with out power for 4 hours. In the house there was a a big flash & bang on one of the circuits in the property, this circuit is now not working. None of the MCBs opened (understandably as they don't provide over voltage protection). As soon as I get access I am going to have a look. Apart from the obvious fault of a non functioning circuit, I am going to suggest that we inspect & test the rest of the installation. My questions are 1. Would you replace all the MCBs as there is no way of testing the MCBs 2. Would my client be able to claim from the DNO? 3.. Do DNOs publish information on these kind of failures or do they provide them upon request? |

sparkiemike,
Every one I have spoken to with regard to similar but less catatrophic issues the local DNO here is not interested! How about the house insurance? I would contact the DNO for help if you can get through to the tech guys and they are anything like our local DNO they are normally very good. I know this is contrary to my previous statement, but when it is regarding claims it is another dept! Not sure about the MCB's, or the PIR, I think I would try the DNO first then attempt to look at the faults and then make a judgement call. HTH Paul. Edited coz I clicked too soon! |
