for domestic work local classified ad works for me. Although I have noticed recently a lot more electricians are using the service - so more competition

I use flyers, usually drop a few off with neighbours after completing a job, I have got work from them, but usually months (some cases over year) after the event.

So for immediate results the classified ad is your best bet although check how many others are using the service.
