I've had a quick go at your problem Mooney and I get a similar answer but out by one order of magnitude (what's that between friends!).
This could be because I'm completely wrong, or because we agree and one of us has just misplaced a decimal point by one. It's a long time since I've done these and had to resort to Wikipedia to get me going, so no promises that I'm correct, but hopefully a look at how I did it may be helpful. I started with the change of width formula here: Poissons Ratio Width Change Forrmula Rearranging that allows calculation of change in length (Delta L). With Delta L we can calc Strain, which gives Stress, which finally gives Force. I get F = 2.09MN My full working is here: Working pdf Hope that helps. PS, my apologies to Gus: I'm mechanical, not electrical, and not the best person to help with the AC voltage problem. Fingers crossed someone else will be along before long. Cheers Gruff for taking the time out to work it all out too. I've used similar methods to yourself and also referred to Wikipedia for formulas etc..... Thanks again! Time to tackle question number 2 now which looks like a testing one! |

Hello,
I am new to the forum and have a few questions. I have just finished year 1 of a HNC in Manufacturing engineering and am planning to transfer to the HNC Mechanical at COLU in the next 2 weeks. I understand I can use my completed units in Analytical Methods & Eng Science so that means I have 6 units left to complete. I just wanted to know how long each unit takes roughly, as I am planning on changing career and just wanted to see how long it was taking everyone else to complete their units. Thanks in advance and look forward to using this forum to exchange ideas soon! Cheers. |
