This is in response to a couple of messages about how to add an avatar to your profile, you can add a humorous picture or even your own photo if you so wish, it seems like the format we are permitted at the moment is .jpg so make sure it is in this format.

You can add avatars directly from the internet but probably the best method is create a folder on your desktop called 'avatars' then you can have a few within easy reach to change now and again, to save an avatar off the internet right click on the avatar of your choice and select 'Save Picture As...' into your 'avatars' folder.

Sign into the IET as you normally do and you will see an orange panel next to your name that says 'MyIET' click on this and another page will appear where you can do all sorts of things but for the purpose of this exercise we are only concerned about adding an avatar/picture, look for the tab that says Public profile' and click on this, you may be required to verify your user name and password again, when this page is displayed look for the tab that says 'Edit profile' and a number of panes will appear, on the left hand side is a pane called 'Photo' click on the 'Browse' button and select the folder you created on your desktop called 'avatars', select the avatar/photo you want to display and then click on the button 'Upload' and the picture should appear in that pane, if it does not check that the avatar/picture is not in a file format not supported, it needs to be a .jpg, once the picture has appeared and you are happy with it, if you are not just select 'Browse' select another picture and 'Upload' that will replace the picture each time then click on the button 'Update' under the 'Upload' button.

Go to the right hand side of the same page and you will see a panel called 'Photo', you need to check the box that says 'Display my picture on other parts of the site', then at the bottom of the same panel click on 'Update', close page and go back to the forum (update using F5) and your avatar/picture is there for all the world to see.

Hope this helps.

You would not believe the amount of grief I took (and still do) when the movie came out. Not helped by the fact the wife brought me a "Stuart Little" lunch box. Couldn't resist using it as my avatar as it sort of seemed appropriate.

Best to make sure DreamWorks Animation don't mind you using a picture of their character who guards the derelict castle Princess Fiona is located in

Avatars have slowed down the whole forum, can't open the page, or timed out error. Is now common.

I am sorry for the performance issues experienced today. They are not specifically a result of avatars, which are only a small part of the overall new public profile and networking features; these can be accessed via My IET, or via links on usernames next to messages.

Today we have had a farm of badly-configured indexing robots hitting the site, and problems with one Web server which are currently being investigated by our hosting suppliers.

We do take performance seriously and will continue to monitor it.

Follow these instructions;

Hope this helps.

fmuyambo - could you send details to Webmaster and we'll look into it? It would help to know the time at which you tried this, whether you tried again later, and so on. Also the size of the new image would be helpful.

Thanks David,

I had made another attempt at about 4pm today (London time) and after resizing my photo from 74kb to 5kb, it worked!

Thanks

Today we have had a farm of badly-configured indexing robots hitting the site, and problems with one Web server which are currently being investigated by our hosting suppliers.

We do take performance seriously and will continue to monitor it.

Rock, is that Schrodingers cat? It's too small to read but looks like it. But what have you got in box 2 that looks like a socket or something?

Do tell. Am proper curious.

Yeah yeah, I'll get round to it. But photos and uploading and jaypegging and stuff.....You are all much more techy. But I will join in.

Have photo of BOD at age 21 which has recently increased in value don't you think?.......So I know he will never misbehave again Ooh, I feel all secure. BOD, practice this: ' Yes Zs, you are quite right and I bow to your superior knowledge'...

Our previous cat, who passed away last year at the age of 21, could have been described as 'Schrodinger's Cat' for the last year or so it's life, bless it..

I don't think there were any radioactive flasks involved in this instance, unless the missus isn't telling me something...

If you want a borderless pic, the 'grey' background that surrounds the avatars is "#E2E2E2", or "226,226,226" in RGB.

Well I am going to put you all out of suspense, I have secretly filmed footage of Bod on a day out with Zs, OMS, R&R & Geoff Blackwell, who for some reason, is disguised as a policeman and Bod doesn't look very old at all and, if I must say, I think he is rather down with the kids too.

I think that is brilliant, it reminds of a few on here who get home kick off their high heels, throw their handbag into the corner and settle down to try and make sense of BS7671

And you wonder why my regs are so dog-eared? You ever tried talking to His Imperial Bodliness on the phone? And he suggested I look like Shrek. Careful Bod...photo... Send money now or else.

Still love it when Stu's avatar comes up. Makes me smile.

And Paradigm, no, not either. I have a pair of Flatty boot Choos which were a present but when I wore them into the wholesaler one Saturday morning I ended up with my leg on the counter 'Look, Jimmy Choo'. That's true So have decided I may not be a designer girl cos it hurt my leg. But they are cool.

" the "BOD factor""

The suggestion was clarifed last night when I said it was a continuation of the pink booties theme and it wasn't Shrek but the dragon.
I'm not quite sure whether I made the "situation" any better though

Oh Yes, The "Bod factor" or what one kindly old gent can cause you to do to your copy of the regulations within ten minutes of being on the phone. Mine look as ancient as the dead sea scrolls now.

Personally, I think you should publish the photos of him, especially the ones of him in drag wearing your high heels or whasn't I meant to mention those

I would like to rearrange the sentence without the mischievous intent.....

Whilst being BOD's glamorous assistant on a PIR we did, I took a photograph of a ladder whose rubber feet are enclosed with pink booties to protect the £300/m2 floor and it just so happens, that BOD who was wearing plain black shoes, was next to the ladder ........

Sorry I'm getting to this post a bit late....

Shouldn't any floor that costs £300/m2 be fairly unscratchable??

I'd have a word with the manufacturers if i were you....
