hello, Sad person not from Sidcup here,

I received my appointment for my annual assessment by email yesterday evening. This is Napit. They are asking for a choice of three jobs this time round and I don't think I can come up with the goodies because of the new circuits required for them.

I've just taken on a biggie which I thought would be perfect for it but it now seems as though it might not be on account of not being one of three.

So, I might be having to surrender my registration. I'm full-on sad about that.

The new job of course means that it is less important but the loss of the choice to march to the beat of my own drum doesn't half weigh heavy. Every time the office politics starts making my head explode I tell myself that I'm the only one in there with a back-up.

Oh well, it is what it is but this might be the end of another era coming up.

Are you all now being asked for a choice of three from Napit? In fairness it makes a lot of sense to me but I wish it wasn't happening.

Usually if you have been on a scheme awhile and not identified as a rogue, especially if the same assessor, the number of "jobs" is arbitrary, so if you have not got your Blue Peter jobs to hand, you will get a "desk assessment". So do not cancel.

Phone them and explain your predicament, I am sure they will want to keep you and your money :-)

I had this same problem with Stoma last year as no recent jobs that I could get access too , so I put a single radial to a spur for a heated floor ,in my own house its the only way i could get round it.

Most people dont want you back in their house - they are sick of builders etc , so its not always easy to have a customer let you back in a month later after a re-wire.

But because of that, I guess, they interviewed me for well over an hour and I got asked loads of varying questions by two guys , but I am pretty certain you be able to answer them all!

Zs I know for certai 2 schemes that will accept you do a circuit in your own house. I would be surprised if NAPIT don`t do likewise. Tell them you`ll do three circuits, should keep em happy

Zs,
Don't you know a few registered 'approved' pals who will sign the job off for you on the knod for a few beer tokens?

That's the way I do it.

thank you,

I sent an email after talking with you on here...

It has been arranged for November. Hopefully the work I have on order will be sufficient for them. I will let you know of course.

There's something about getting another to sign off for me that doesn't suit me just yet. I suppose it is pride but I get asked to do that so often. I think it's nice not to have to rely on the back door thing. Not yet anyway.

See you at Elex?

When I was NIC registered for around 6 years I used to have to show them 6 jobs and they would pick three... I remember when one year I had them all and the three chosen were ok by him and we couldnt get into No 3 so he accepted just the two... we were then graded either A or B and I was always 'A'... I guess times are a changing?

Good luck though!

Regarding Napit's stringent test procedure , this is quite a interesting albeit long read:

The guy is certainly thorough, but does kind'a make a mockery of it all.

Reviewing a cert 6 months or a couple of years after some notional works, any apportion of "blame" is anecdotal. Anything could have happened in the interim. There was a builder involved and they love to turn their hand to " lectrics" . Wrong boxes being filled or ticked is par for the course when the whole certification thing is tick box mad.

On the back of the gents toilet door at my Sunday job is a sheet of paper with 32 tick boxes for the cleaner to tick every 4 hours.
Perhaps someone from the electrical board saw this tick sheet and thought that looks pucker lets use that idea for our certification

Well I went to the wholesaler to order up the kit for this job yesterday.

Not only did the warm welcome I received up at Grant and Stone make me stop and think about whether I've done the right thing in getting a proper job but the bill came to £7k. I reckon it's enough of a job to see me through an inspection eh? I just boosted the Hager and FP200 economy.

It's new heating for a church - remember me asking you about BN Thermic? Well that's what they've gone for. that reminds me, I must let them know.

I'm looking forward to it now.

Blimey Zs, that's an old quote! I remember you sorting that out nearly a year ago!

From my experience this is exactly what I would expect from NICEIC who seem to want to find any excuse to charge you money - just like any "charity"!

NAPIT I've always found far more pragmatic, far more reasonable and open to common sense. I know my NAPIT assessor would be quite happy to accept your situation.

Good luck with the church - I'm sure the ladies of the church will provide plenty of hot tea and cakes.

No Leckie, this is another church from the one I did last year but yes, the churches take an absolute age to get things sorted. It's that big G fella who makes the decisions..I reckon he has other things on his plate. He's probably up there saying 'put another jumper on and stop moaning'.

Anyway, I just got your text. Err, have you got something to tell us madam? Or has predictive text done a job on your name? I nearly fell out of the car laughing at it.

you may be the law Dusty, but I found out this week that I'm the poster girl for Stroma. A shot JP took of me running a new kewtech tester through its paces gracing their stand at Elex. I don't half hope I was doing it right.

Must go - burning the weekend oil putting in new circuits....
