This briefing sets some of the key issues surrounding the electric vehicles (EVs) debate and puts them in context. It looks at the questions being asked by society, and examines the claims being made and the possible lifestyle implications of EVs on people’s lives.
It does not provide answers to the issues identified. Instead it sets them out and aims to highlight the most burning questions in order to assist the debate. The questions covered include the green credentials of EVs; the changes needed in the way users plan their journeys and in driving styles; charging and paying for electricity use; battery technology; and the impact of charging connectors on the existing housing stock.
