Nuclear Power - Opportunities for Scottish Engineering

A briefing from IET Engineering Policy Group Scotland.

This document comprises material presented during an Engineering Policy Group Scotland ‘Holyrood Briefing’ on “Civil Nuclear Power - Opportunities for Scottish Engineering”, which was given at the Scottish Parliament on 25th November 2015.

Dr Graeme West from the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering at the University of Strathclyde and Professor William Nuttall, Professor of Energy at the Open University were the main speakers at this event.

Civil nuclear in Scotland provides around half of the energy consumption of the country. Both remaining power stations are near the end of their working lives. Nonetheless there is a considerable nuclear legacy in Scotland and substantial activity in new nuclear generation is planned for England and Wales.
