Prevention of slips and trips

A health and safety briefing provided by the IET.

Slips and trips are the most common cause of major injuries at work and it is estimated that on average, a third of all reported major injuries and some 20% of over 3-day injuries are the result of slips and trips. Major slips usually result in broken bones and they can also be the precursor to even more serious events, such as a fall from height.

The average annual cost to all UK employers from slips and trips is over £512 million per year in lost production and other costs, whilst the cost to the health service is of the order of £133 million per year.
