This factfile gives an introduction to wind power in the UK
Wind energy is one of the fastest growing energy technologies, with an average global growth over the last several years of more than 30% annually. At the end of 2006 global installed capacity stood at over 74,000 MW. Around 65% of the globally installed capacity (48,000 MW) is located in EU countries, with Germany alone accounting for 27.8% of the global installed capacity. Spain, the USA, India and Denmark follow. In 2005 wind power supplied less than 1% of electricity in the UK. At the beginning of 2007 the UK’s installed wind capacity reached 2,000 MW.
