About this event

Clifford Mayhew from Liverpool John Moores University will introduce the basic principles and systems used in Industry 4.0
Industry 4.0 is a name for the current trend of automation and data exchange in manufacturing technologies. The first being Mechanisation (water and steam power), the second, Mass production assembly lines, the third, computer and automation technology. It includes cyber-physical systems, the Internet of things, cloud computing and cognitive computing. Industry 4.0 creates what has been called a "smart factory".
“The value created by Industry 4.0 vastly exceeds the low-single-digit cost savings that many manufacturers pursue today” (Boston Consulting Group). The term "Industrie 4.0" originates from a project in the high-tech strategy of the German government, which promotes the computerisation of manufacturing.
The term was revived in 2011 at the Hannover Fair.
