Broadband DSL – Technology, Standards and Evolution

Kevin Foster and John MacDonald will describe BT’s access network and the evolution of Digital Subscriber Line technology that has had a profound effect on the way we live our lives in the digital age. They both have over 30 years’ experience with the DSL technology that is used by BT and Openreach to deliver superfast and ultrafast broadband to over 95% of the UK. They will also cover aspects of their work in national and international standards in support of creating global economies of scale and interoperability for DSL.

Kevin Foster CEng. FIET is responsible for Broadband standardisation and ecosystems in BT’s Technology, Service and Operations line of business. He is Chairman of the global Broadband Forum (www.broadband-forum.org) and Chairman of the UK’s NICC DSL Task Group (www.niccstandards.org.uk).

John MacDonald CEng. FIET is responsible for the design and specification of superfast and ultrafast DSL systems in Openreach. He is Vice Chairman of Europe’s ETSI ATTM TM6 standards committee (www.etsi.org).
