About this event

Although originally intended for switchboards and motor control centres, BS EN 60439-1 had become a general purpose document for specifiers of switchgear but lacked the depth of detail for many of the products to which it was being applied.

Therefore, the BS EN 60439 standard was replaced by BS EN 61439 in 2009.  This was the aim of an international project group which had been working on a task named ”radical restructuring and revision of IEC 60439 series” since 1998. This initiative was introduced by several countries following dissatisfaction with the IEC 60439 series. The purpose was to harmonise and define all general requirements for low-voltage electrical ASSEMBLIES.
This presentation will cover the forms of separation and life protection with regards to the contemporary BS EN 61439 standard and clearly identify its key changes from the previous BS EN 60439 standard.

Life protection and arc quenching systems will also be presented. If you specify an assembly as requiring an internal arc fault capability in accordance with IEC/TR 61641; what can you expect?
