About this event

In 1985 the young British scientist Alec Jefferies invented the analytical technique of DNA fingerprinting. Since that time, the technology (now known as DNA profiling) has been developed to a level where it is accepted worldwide as the infallible method for identifying individuals and investigating their inherited lineage. It is now used routinely in criminal trials, paternity disputes, immigration cases, medical research and archaeological investigations. We can even see it being used by modern detectives on TV. In this talk I will explain how DNA fingerprinting works, its value to society and why on rare occasions it can still go wrong.
