About this event

The civil application of Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS), with its more popular name “Drone”, brings in enormous benefits on creativity and efficiency in aerial filming and photography, survey and engineering, entertainment and transportation, life-saving and many more sectors, but concurrently causing huge impacts to statutory, insurance and security organizations.  The recent success of commercial drones is an excellent example of revolutionary use of electronics and communications technologies to create new business cases and socio-technological evolutions.  

This seminar will provide audience an anatomy view of UAS, using examples of commercial and DIY drones, with related discussions on some of the enabling technologies and trends

About the Speaker
Mr.  Stanley Lau, a professional engineer and committee member of ECS of IET Hong Kong since 2015, indulged in various engineering disciplines in railway and civil aviation domains for over 20 years.  His early engagement and interest in UAS industry since 2012 blended well with his wide spectrum of knowledge in telecommunications, safety management and civil aviation, provides his insights in the development of future UAS from the perspective of industries, statutory and international organizations.

Ir. Ben LI has more than 30 years experience in electronics, communication and manufacturing engineering. In year 1994, he founded his own and currently he is the director of a number of engineering and technology companies in Hong Kong and China.

Ir. LI got his B.Sc (Hons) from Chinese University of Hong Kong majoring in Electronics and is one of the early direct students of Prof Charles K Kao. He holds an MBA from Henley Management College and Brunel University and has also possessed a number of professional Diplomas in Management Studies and Public Administrations from Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He is a Chartered Engineer and is now the Chairman of Electronics and Communications Section Committee of IET Hong Kong. Ir LI has a strong passion at community works. He had been an adjunct lecturer at Hong Kong Polytechnic for 18 years. Currently he is an External Assessor for Research Grant Approving Committee of CityU of Hong Kong .
