About this event

Data breaches, unauthorized uses of data, data privacy infringements – As companies become increasingly obsessed with harnessing the power hidden within users’ data, incidents of mishandling data hit records high as well. General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), enacted by the European Union, is here to the rescue. Throughout your engineering career, you will have to be very careful when it comes to your clients’ data. As such, you will need to understand why GDPR matters to companies in Hong Kong. This is a perfect opportunity for you to learn more about the regulation.

In this seminar, we are honoured to have Mr Welland Chu, Business Development Director, APJ of Thales e-Security (https://www.thalesesecurity.com), to be the keynote speaker. Mr Chu would give an overview of GDPR, including when enforcement is carried out and who are affected. He would also highlight the difference between GDPR and CAP486: Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance of Hong Kong, another key regulation on personal data protection. Last but not least, Mr Chu would make recommendations on how to attain compliance with GDPR.

Mr Chu is very experienced in the industry. He serves as the Professional Development VP and Secretary at the China Hong Kong Chapter of ISACA (https://www.isaca.org/), a global non-profit organisation focusing on IT Governance and Cyber Security.  Mr Chu also runs the Thales Alliance for Solution and Application Providers (ASAP) Program that develops and implements industry proven security solutions for the benefit of the end-users community. Over his 24 years in the security industry, he has been leading teams of security professionals in implementing security solutions for or providing independent security assessments on various complex and mission-critical systems.

This event aims to give you a walkthrough of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). By understanding more about the regulation and learning how to comply with it, you could become a better engineer by safeguarding the interests of your company and clients. Join now to learn how to be a better protector!
