About this event

Light is the messenger and colour its message. The light we see with our eyes is only a tiny part of the electromagnetic spectrum ranging from the X-ray to the radio, used by astronomers, to unravel the mysteries of stars, galaxies and blackholes. In this richly illustrated talk, we will first look at some of the new telescopes, including the ‘Extremely Large Telescope’, with its 39m mirror, currently being built in Chile and  then at the  techniques used to obtain the images. We will then look at some of the amazing results from these telescopes  and see what they have to tell us about our Universe.
