About this event

Electricity can be generated from a surprising source - bacteria found in soils and sediments. This talk from Prof Julea Butt will introduce ‘rock-breathing bacteria’ that act as biobatteries and consider how they might be harnessed as a sustainable electricity supply. Julea leads a research group working on the electron transfer properties of proteins and bacteria. They gain insight into the essential biological role of these proteins and this inspires their exploration of how these properties could be harnessed for sustainable electricity and solar fuels. Julea is Professor of Biophysical Chemistry in the School of Chemistry and the School of Biological Sciences at the University of East Anglia.
