PATW is the IET's global competition for Young Professionals and Students within engineering to develop and showcase their presentation skills.

About this event

Competition Stages

There are 3 fixed stages and 2 optional stages of the competition

Stage one - University level (optional): LNs can organise Student group competitions in Universities (aged 18- 30) in advance of the local network competition. Winners will receive an automatic place into stage two of the competition.

Stage two - LN competition (fixed): The winner and runner-up of each LN competition will receive cash prizes of £150 and £100 respectively and an automatic place in either a national (area) or regional final.

Stage three - National (Area) competition (optional): The winner and runner-up of each National competition will receive cash prizes of £300 and £200 respectively and an automatic place in the regional final.

Stage four - Regional final (fixed): The winner and runner-up of the regional finals will then receive cash prizes of £400 and £300 respectively. The winner will receive an automatic place in the Global final.

Stage 5 - Global final (fixed): The winners of the Global final will receive cash prizes of £1000 and £500 respectively.

Please see below a few guidelines:

 

1.   Competitors are asked to give a presentation for 10 minutes on a subject related to engineering and technology, and to answer questions for a further five minutes. 

2. The event is mainly to judge presentation skills, although the topic should be appropriate to the intended audience of students and young professionals. 

3. The competitors should be asked to provide a USB stick with their presentation already uploaded on. Any additional equipment will need to be provided by the presenter.

4. The judges may be provided with a brief synopsis of the competitors’ presentations (100-200 words).   This will not be used for pre-screening purposes to verify if the participant can enter or not.  All potential entrants should be given a chance to compete no matter of their academic background as long as the presentation is given on the relevant subject matter. if you would like to provide a synopsis, please send those to me by Monday 12/02.7

5. If you are using KeyNote, please bring your own mac laptop.

Programme

  • Refreshments/Networking at 5:30pm
  • Start at 6pm
  • Presentations by applicants
  • Break (during which the judges decide the winners)
  • Announcement of the winners

Reasons to attend

Present Around The World (PATW) is a competition open to applicants between 18 and 30 years old. Individual competitors give a ten minute presentation on a technology or engineering related subject of their choice in front of an audience and a panel of judges, followed by a five minute question and answer session.
