Organised by the UK - SW:Gloucestershire local network.

About this event

With almost daily headlines concerning the protection (or otherwise) of our data, the challenges of large scale data migration should not be underestimated.  In addition, pressure to keep costs under control whilst assuring continuity of performance present those charged with implementing and overseeing Data Migration projects multiple technical and organisational challenges.  With the impending introduction of the General Data Protection Regulations in May 2018, these challenges will become even more acute.

The IET Gloucestershire Local Network, in partnership with the Gloucestershire STEM Network, is delighted to welcome our presenter, Janet Harrison, Lead Engineer at Northrup Grumman.  Fresh from presenting at the NG Women’s International Network Conference in California, Janet will be sharing her experiences of ensuring business continuity, enhancing organisational resilience, and managing system outages without inconveniencing multiple stakeholders.  She will reflect on her experiences of taking part in the televised Remembrance Celebration at the Royal Albert Hall, as well as her work to encourage women to lead in technical domains.

After the presentation, Janet will participate in a Q & A on her role as a lead engineer, her route to becoming one (involving an interesting cooking experience), and the importance of mentors and supportive management.

Lecture - Wed 5 September 2018 at 18:00

Robotic systems are perhaps at their most valuable when carrying out tasks that would otherwise put humans in danger. In some cases they give us visibility or enable operations in environments so extreme humans could not even wilfully venture - space, nuclear and deep subsea.
