About this event

About this event
The emergence of human settlement and cities are closely related to the Neolithic Revolution, which marked the transition from exploiting livelihood (hunting and gathering) to productive livelihood (agriculture - breeding and cultivating). As production increases, cities grow rapidly. The rise in world’s population and change in economic structure have also prompted the urbanization process, where population shifts from rural areas to urban areas, often motivated by economic factors. With rapid urbanization, cities are face with unprecedented challenges in economic, environmental, political and social arenas. While we have been practicing sustainable development for some time, could this be the silver bullet to deal with all the issues of cities? This seminar will discuss the current research and practice in the consideration of a holistic framework to enhance the urban development process that forms the next generation model of best practice in the planning and design of future cities and urban development.
