About this event

Speakers: Mark Nicholson – Head of Smart Grid Implementation, Iain Miller – Head of Innovation,
Paris Hadjiodysseos – Smart Grid Development Engineer (Northern Powergrid)

The needs of our customers and the requirement to find an energy future that optimises for cost, security of supply and sustainability are not only challenging in how we design and operate our network, but also create fundamental questions about the functions and services a power distribution system provides. The nature of these challenges means that we need to have a greater level of understanding of how the network behaves under active scenarios, not envisaged when it was designed and built, and to develop more efficient solutions to the constraints and barriers that we identify. This session will present some of the key learnings from our Customer-Led Network Revolution (CLNR) smart grid demonstration project, talk about the development of a smarter grid and give a snapshot of some of our existing innovation projects that we are hoping will enhance further our understanding of new technologies, new commercial arrangements and customer energy practices.
