About this event

The award for construction of bridge works is very often undertaken on a Design and Build or Design, Build, Fund and Operate basis where by the Contractor or Concession Company is responsible for both the design and construction of the bridge works. Time is money and generally it is essential that rapid erection methods are adopted to complete the project on time and to permit early collection of revenue.

This talk will describe the structural design concepts and mode of action of various bridge forms including details of modern techniques that permit rapid erection of urban viaducts for road and rail.

3 specific examples taken from the speaker's own project experience will be given to illustrate differing rapid erection techniques. The examples will be the Karuah Bridge in NSW Australia, an in situ concrete incrementally launched bridge, viaducts for Taiwan High Speed Rail using pre-cast concrete heavy full span lifts and the use of precast glued segmental viaducts for large urban roads in Kuwait
