Snowdonia Pumped Hydro are converting two disused slate quarries at Glyn Rhonwy and Chwarel Fawr near Llanberis into a Pumped Storage Battery with a capacity of up to 99.9MW. In March 2017, the project was awarded consent from the Secretary of State for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy. It is the first of it's kind consented under the Planning Act 2008 as a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project.
