Snowdonia Pumped Hydro (SPH) was created by Quarry Battery Company (QBC) to develop the Glyn Rhonwy Pumped Storage scheme. Mr Ben Lewis will talk about the scheme to provide power to the national grid.

About this event

Snowdonia Pumped Hydro are converting two disused slate quarries at Glyn Rhonwy and Chwarel Fawr near Llanberis into a Pumped Storage Battery with a capacity of up to 99.9MW. In March 2017, the project was awarded consent from the Secretary of State for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy. It is the first of it's kind consented under the Planning Act 2008 as a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project. Construction work begins on the site in 2018.  The facility will supply renewable power to the UK’s electricity grid and is expected to achieve carbon payback in around six months.
