About this event

Image shows a robot controller for TOE (Trans-Oesophageal Echocardiography.  It enables a high precision ultrasound imaging camera to be manipulated and positioned with greater accuracy than can be achieved by a human operator.

About the speaker

Prof. Rhode obtained his bachelor’s degree at Guy's & St. Thomas' Hospitals Medical School in 1992.   He has a doctorate from UCL, for investigations in the Department of Surgery on quantitative blood flow analysis using X-ray angiography. From 2001 to 2007, he was at the Division of Imaging Sciences, King’s College London, and during this time he also worked in close collaboration with Philips Healthcare.  Further research on interventional cardiac ultrasound combined with X-ray fluoroscopy led to the Philips Echo Navigator release in 2012.   In 2007, he was appointed Reader in Biomedical Engineering in 2015 and Professor in 2016 at King’s College London,   Current research projects include image-guided cardiac interventions in partnership with Siemens Healthcare and intelligent mechatronics systems for cardiac interventions and ultrasound imaging.
