About this event

The laser was invented over 50 years ago but it continues to fascinate, impact our everyday lives and reveal new insights into the universe.

After reviewing the basic principles of laser operation I will discuss the amazing diversity of lasers and the broad range of applications. These include advanced manufacturing, communications, therapeutic and diagnostic medicine among many other areas. Laser technology continues to be used to explore fundamental science and will underpin emerging technologies.

I will conclude with a discussion on Scotland’s contribution to the laser industry.
