About this event

Pye could be considered to be one of the founding companies of the Cambridge phenomenon.  Bob Bates and Richard Howes of the Pye History Trust will tell the story of how Pye grew from a start-up in a garden shed in Cambridge in 1896 until it became one of the leading UK technology companies.  At its peak in 1966 it had more than 60 UK companies, over 20 overseas companies employing 30,000 staff worldwide including 7,000 employees in the Cambridge area.  The story will describe some of the key people who drove the company and the innovative technologies and products that the company produced and finally how and why it eventually crashed and was taken over.

Commences at 1830 hrs with refreshments from 1800 hrs.  Scheduled to finish at 2000 hrs after a Q&A session.
