About this event

Unfortunately we have had to cancel this event as we did not have enough registrations to proceed with the visit.

This power station, located on the Rhine river on France's eastern German border, has been in operation since 1977 and has two pressurized water reactors

Being one of the oldest French power stations, the future operation is currently under review so this is a good opportunity to join the IET for a technical visit whilst it is still operational.

The format of the visit is shall be an initial presentation by EDF on the operating of the facility followed by a visit to different parts of the site. The presentation will be in English.

  • Start at 9:00 AM
  • Finish at 12:00 noon
  • After the visit it will possible to visit the nearby fortified town of Neuf-Brisach for lunch and walk around the fortifications
Information about this event is also to be found in the blog entry at https://communities.theiet.org/groups/blogpost/view/310/310/4957

Reasons to attend

Despite Germany's resolve to close down its nuclear power stations our French neighbours are committed to nuclear power. Find out for yourself how the French view the situation and how they handle the technical challenges involved by joining us on a technical visit to Fessenheim nuclear power plant on July 22nd. 2017.

Social Event - Fri 28 July 2017 at 10:00

Engineering Open House Day takes place on Friday 28 July 2017 (with the exception of two events) and aims to help children (7 - 16 years-old) and their parents understand what it’s like to work as an engineer. It gives them special, behind-the-scenes access to a wide variety of organisations to demonstrate how creative and innovative a career in engineering could be.
