About this event

Open Source is now a popular model for software development.  This model is not just for students or hobbists projects, but is now widely accepted in the commercial software industries to provide mission critical systems and applications.  The most popular open source project, Linux, has a history of over 20 years with 10000+ contributors with a total of over 17 million lines of codes as of today. 

In this seminar, the speaker will share the histories and everything you need to know about Open Source Development Model.  He will progressively explain the fundamental concepts, sharing intersting histories, and to explain how Open Source development has evolved into computer hardware and engineering designs.  He will also provide updates on the business models of the popular IT services giants in the world of internet, and how we can prepare ourselves to capture the opportunities in front of us.


About the speaker

Mr. Peter Man is the Regional Director – Hong Kong and South China, Red Hat Inc. and is one of the most experienced professional in this region in Open Source development models. He is now serving and had served as Director in both Red Hat and SUSE, the two largest Linux distributors in the world, representing a combined of 95%+ of paid Linux market share worldwide. Mr. Man holds a B.Sc. Degree in Computer Science from Boise State University, Idaho, USA and an M.Sc. Degree in Computer Science from Texas A&M University, Texas, USA.
