Matt explore Cyber Security and the National Grid; in particular the weakness of current systems (e.g. The electricity generation networks that we all rely on). Matt will show what may happen with an attack (simulated) on our National Grid.

About this event

 Matt explores Cyber Security and the National Grid,  and the weaknesses of current systems, specifically the electricity generation networks that we all rely on.
Matt will present a simulated Cyber Attack on the National Grid, taking out major generating stations, substations and others by producing erroneous power flows -  causing a cascading/rolling failure between network sectors as entire cities shed their loads to protect their networks.  
Matt will explore the impact over a 7 day total blackout period, with effects on emergency services,  political situation with the The Civil Contingencies Act 2004 and the society as a whole, complete with prevention measures for how to protect oneself such a blackout occur.
Matt will also explore prevention techniques along with the lessons learnt from other blackouts, such as:
July 2012 India blackout - 670 Million people affected
January 2001 India blackout - 230 million people affected
2009 Brazil and Paraguay blackout - 87 Million people affected.
Northeast blackout of 2003 - 55 million people affected
