Present Around the World (PATW) competition is a technical presentation competition in which students and young professionals are able to give a short presentation on an engineering or technology subject of their choice followed by a Q and A session.

About this event

  • Each PATW candidate will be given 10 minutes of presentation time plus 5 minutes to answer questions from the audience.
  • The PATW competition is an international and progressive event which extends to all corners of the world. The local winner will have the opportunity to compete in the national final held in Melbourne next year, and winning that will progress you to regional final somewhere in the Asia Pacific region. The regional winner will be competing in the global final in London, where all flights and accommodation will be expensed by the IET.
  • The judging is split 25% technical content, 75% presentation skills.

The technical content is based on:

  • Preparation;
  • Depth of knowledge;
  • Originality;
  • Logical structure;
  • Effectiveness of introduction and conclusion; and
  • Suitability of audience

The presentation skills is based on:

  • Presence (Poise/Manner, appropriate use of notes, confidence);
  • Voice (Variety of modulation, acceptable volume, good use of pauses, clarity);
  • Time management (Time allocation, keeping presentation within the time limit/15 minutes); and
  • Lecture Aid (Effectiveness, quality/clarity, use of visual aid, appropriateness).
