Navigational aids are safety critical equipment providing positional and directional guidance to aircraft in flight. This technical talk will give an overview of all the navigational aids and its evolution in civil aviation of Hong Kong.

About this event

Whilst conventional navigational aids broadcast radio signals to direct aircraft to destinations, the latest development in satellite-based navigation technology, through employment of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) for providing autonomous geo-spatial positioning with global coverage, enables more efficient flight path and use of airspace while maintaining flight safety.  The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has outlined in the Aviation System Block Upgrades (ASBU) framework the aviation development for the next 15-20 years, with GNSS as a core technology enabling harmonized and seamless global air traffic service.
