About this event

The African continent has developed adequate capacity on submarine fibre optic cables along the shores of the African coastline, however, it lacks an adequate communications infrastructure within African countries including cross-border connectivity. This is being addressed by the second Nigerian Communication satellite, which was launched in December 2011, it has quad-band high power communications, its geostationary orbit is positioned at 42.5oE and has an expected service life of more than 15 years. When combined with easily installed last-mile radio communications infrastructure, affordable internet services can be delivered to every African, greatly increasing economic and educational opportunities.
