About this event

Throughout his 25 year career with the water industry John Butcher (Regional Water Supply Manager with United Utilities) has always maintained an involvement with the Thirlmere Scheme which was developed by the Victorians over 117 years ago.  John will takes us through the history, engineering and operation of this scheme which continues to supply 220,000 tonnes of water daily to Lancashire and Manchester by the use of gravity alone.
