About this event

The talk will introduce tidal stream energy, tidal resource and provide a brief summary of emerging technology. Using specific examples, some of the issue of designing robust industrial turbines that are required for the commercial success of this emerging market will be discussed. In addition experience from building and operating MCT’s existing tidal devices will be presented along with future plans for small arrays and the design of the new 2.0MW SeaGen device. 


Matthew Reed is the Engineer Director of Marine Current Turbines, where he has worked since 2004. 20 years industrial experience within OEM companies: aerospace, defence, engineering of distributed generation technologies, design of power electronics, Chartered Electrical Engineer (MIET), MSc Engineering Management, BEng (hons) Electrical and Mechanical Engineering
