A presentation looking at energy vectors, energy storage and conversion systems for the range extended electric vehicle. A number of energy storage and conversion systems are available from batteries, petrol and IC engine generators through to gas turbine generators and fuel cells. Each of these have unique features and abilities that challenge the vehicle application. An overview is given of the different systems along with examples and comparisons. The most efficient conversion engine does not always make the most efficient overall system.
