About this event

Guest speaker :

Ian Hore-Lacy
Director for Information
World Nuclear Association, London

Nuclear power provides about 14% of world electricity, as continuous reliable supply on a large scale.  It has the potential and probability of considerable expansion, especially where carbon emission constraints apply, and as the grid transmission issues with high inputs of intermittent renewables become more challenging.

Public acceptance is crucial, and perceptions relating to safety, wastes and radiation need to become more widely based on facts rather than folklore, and put into perspective.
Any wide
market penetration of electric cars has the potential to increase the proportion of electricity provided as base-load, and hence benefit nuclear prospects.
Desalination is another growth area for power demand, including from nuclear.
